Alena is running the show. She is a true Westray
person, like most of the others, born & breed on this island. From
other guests comments and probably your own experience you can see
that she invests far more into her task than any manger's job description
would ask of her. Alena intuitively knows how to create exactly
the right atmosphere for guests at the Bis-Geos. I am sure she will
help you with all queries and any problems that might arise.
Marie keeps the interior of the Bis-Geos clean
and up to its high standard of presentation. We know the importance
of this task for holiday accommodation and put it very high on our
list aiming at guest's satisfaction - we hope successfully. If Alena
is not around Marie will be happy to assist you.
Raymond has helped us out in so many areas - joinery,
plumbing, electrical work, etc. With his excellent skills on board
we haven't been stuck yet. Another good thing is that he doesn't
laugh about the owner's new design ideas - both for the interior
or exterior - as many craftsmen have before. He just smiles and
works out a way to make the idea happen. If you have a mechanical
problem I'm sure it wont take long before Raymond has a close look
at it.
Kathleen is the gardener. She has put much time
and effort in the botanical experiments of the Bis-Geos. In such
an open place exposed to gales, salt spray and rabbits it was not
easy to find species that would survive. Now it's delightful to
see how many of the plants chosen have survived, adding gentle colours
to the rough, protecting rocks and flagstones. I'm sure Kathleen
will have a chat with you about the garden if you are interested.
Debbie who is based in Balintore, Ross-Shire
is dealing with all the figures surrounding the Bis-Geos. It is
amazing the amount of accounting that's needed and the forms for
bureaucracy that are involved in a small project like this. We are
glad that Debbie has taken on this battle.
Sometimes I am around as well. My base is also
Balintore and I'm doing General Practice and anaesthetic locums
in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Six years ago I came to
Scotland for a 3-week locum and I haven't left. The true friendliness
of the people and melancholic beauty of the land keep me here. Before
that, I worked for some years in South Africa and twice took time
out for 16 months to backpack the world. The travel bug is still
with me and from January to April each year I migrate south to work
in either the outback of Western Australia or in the bush of Namibia
and South Africa.
