Despite being an island, Westray is far from small. The island is almost 12 miles long and for true independant travel whatever the weather, taking a car is a relatively inexpensive luxury. The Ro-Ro ferry from Kirkwall to Rapness takes roughly 1½ hours. For a timetable and pricelist visit the Orkney Ferries website at www.orkneyferries.co.uk
From the ferry you can expect a ten mile drive to the Bis Geos Hostel and Cottages. There is plenty of space to park your car by the Bis Geos.
There are petrol stations nearby at Pierowall. Many of Westrays roads are single track with passing places. Always be aware of oncoming traffic!
Please note - Many of Westrays attractions require a degree of walking - up to ½ mile in some cases
