On foot is a great way to explore Westray. Although the island is large (almost 12 miles long) many of the attractions are in close proximity to the Bisgeos. Noup Head, Noltland Castle, Grobust Beach, Pierowall Village, the Westray Heritage Centre, the Pierowall Hotel and the foot passenger ferry to Papa Westray are all within reasonable walking distance! You can also walk during the day down to the sites and get a lift back from the village with Alena at about 18 00, when she is driving up to the bisgeos. One of the main attractions for walkers is the WESTERN walk, which follows the cliffs on the westside and passes just beneath the BISGEOS. The walk stretches from Kirbest Farm to the lighthouse at Noup Head. You can use the public pathway joining the West Westray Walk by turning left just before you get to the Backarass Farm on the road to Noup Head. |
